On Sunday night, a group of us blogkakis met for a Chinese New Year dinner at Geylang. I had suggested Geylang Lorong 9, not having been there for many years. Someone brought a tray of yu sheng from NTUC which we tossed in the usual way. After that, we tucked into beef horfun and other dishes, supplemented by frog leg porridge and oyster omelette from the stall across the road. We then walked to Lorong 27A for the soya bean milk at Yong He Restaurant. That stretch of Geylang had a vibrant feel to it with a strong Mainland Chinese presence. It reminded me of the Singapore of the past when street life was raw and life seemed more multi-colour.
George Quek who is a sharp observer of trends pointed out various things to me which I would not have noticed. Joanne Peh must have been recognised by many passers by.
